Two words you don't want ringing out when holiday are "I'm borrrrrrrrrrrrred"...so here are some ideas of things to do for older children (or big kids at heart!) in the Mid Wales area:
Ultimate Xscape is the first Escape Room experience in Aberystwyth. An Escape Room is a real-life escape experience based on the Japanese online game, ‘Takagism’. Players are locked inside a themed room, and need to work as a team to solve a series of puzzles, riddles and hints in order to escape within the 60 minute time limit. Do you think you’ve got what it takes to escape the games? Take on Room 13 & Spellbound, 2 exciting and different experiences!

Mid Wales Off Road
Race off-road karts, enjoy a ride in the argo-cat or drive a digger at Mid Wales Off Road! Go paintballing with friends or simply relax with a picnic whist you watch the rest of your group play. Suitable for children from 10+ and groups of 6 upwards are needed, but if there are fewer do call anyway as they can try and fit you in with others.
There are lots of trails through the Hafren Forest where we are located, and we are on Sustrans 8 cycle route. Cli-MachX is a popular trail near Machynlleth - check out Mountain Biking Wales's website for further details and photos.
Walking to the Source of the Severn
If you fancy some fresh air, you can walk to the source of the River Severn (or Afon Hafren in Welsh) from our cottages. There are fantastic views towards the coast and the mountains of Snowdonia.
Visit Aberystwyth's Butterfly House to see hundreds of colourful butterflies, giant caterpillars and bizarre insects, rare and endangered plants, and enjoy the woodlands, walks and waterfalls of the stunning Reheidol Valley.
Silver Mountain Experience
Come and explore The Silver Mountain Experience, a place where history, myth and legend collide in a fantastic day out for the whole family. Embark on an adventure with a choice of guided tours discovering the history of the Silver-Lead Mine, or experience Welsh fantasy and myth in one of the actor led shows.
King Arthur's Labyrinth & Corris Craft Centre
King Arthur's Labyrinth has been voted as Best Visitor Attraction in Mid Wales in the National Tourism Awards for Wales 2018. The fun-filled adventure sweeps you, by boat, through the magical veil of an underground waterfall into a mythical world filled with dragons, giants, fierce battles and the legendary King Arthur. Ancient legends from Wales unfold as you're guided through the Labyrinth by a hooded Dark Age Boatman!
Also based at the same site is Corris Craft Centre, where you'll find a great collection of shops, attractions and activities to keep the whole family entertained for hours. There's free parking and free WIFI available in the café too. There are 9 individual Craft Studios – which are octagonal shaped pods bursting with creativity – where you can meet the talented designer-makers and buy their handmade items. Perfect for finding a special something, inspired by, and handmade in Wales. There’s lots of opportunities for hands-on fun too, a surprisingly great way to unwind and have some fun with your own clever creations to take home...and a gin distillery which will go down well with parents!
The lovely Beau Beauty in Llanidloes offers all sorts of pampering treatments in their boutique beauty salon; offering a wide range of beauty, massage and holistic treatments within a warm, welcoming and luxurious environment.
Aside from the above, there are plenty of events throughout the year from the Machynlleth Comedy Festival to Shrewsbury Steam Fayre. A trip to the beach for honey ice cream and crabbing at Aberdyfi is always recommended and if all else fails - there is wifi in the cottage! However, if you'd like your child to have some screen-free time remain unplugged for your visit, let us know and we are happy to just give you the password :)
