The conservatory is nearly finished: other than decorating.
When it is finished, it will provide a large (7m x 5m) room which
we intend to put to a variety of uses: breakfast room for B&B guests,
dining room for B&B, self catering and non resident guests, lecture room,
meeting room and possibly tea room. The room will be a lovely sunny addition
to Cwmbiga.Whilst the
project is going well and we are convinced having the conservatory will be
a real asset to the business (as well as finishing the project off and making
the site more aesthetically pleasing) it is another big financial commitment
and a source of some anxiety. Having said that, we were very pleased
with the results of our first full year of business. Having withdrawn
from the agency contract, all our bookings in 2008 were 'home grown' and
the feedback from the self catering, B&B and mini conference guests was
universally positive. We are also now enjoying more and more repeat
bookings, something we aim to develop.
Fortunately our bees are still doing ok. Susan and I checked the hive recently and found that they are well. The varroa mite count is low, which is also good news. And we have now seen more than 50 species of bird at Cwmbiga. In fact, the wildlife is thriving - something that is always more noticeable at this lovely time of year.
The photo on the right is of Hannah and Louis 'sledging' down one of our fields in February. We all had a go on fertiliser bags filled with hay: fantastic. Peter set the world record for the longest run at 10.30pm, in fantastically bright moonlight, taking advantage of the frozen snow surface. June 2009 [back to partners' page] |
